What type of person is an Air sign?
If you want to get things moving, the Air element signs—Gemini, Libra and Aquarius—act as the “winds of change.” These mobile, intellectual signs inspire action, innovation and out-of-the-box ideas. When a strong gust hits you, you can’t help but move.
At times this breezy energy can make you feel like an “airhead,” blowing this way and that without a clear direction. At other moments, it can be as powerful as a gravity-defying G-force, launching you straight to your desired destination.
What are the four elements in astrology?
The four elements in astrology are fire, earth, air and water.
Fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
Like fire itself, fire signs tend to be passionate, dynamic, and temperamental. Fire can keep you warm, or it can do great destruction. While fire burns out quickly without fuel to keep it going, it can also regenerate its power from the ashes. A single spark can set off a forest fire. As a result, fire signs need to be nurtured and managed carefully.
Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
Earth energy is very physical, tangible, and sensual. Along with water signs, earth signs exude a receptive, yin energy. They can get cast as uptight or slow, but that’s not necessarily true. They simply like to have a solid foundation and are the steadiest and most grounded bunch of signs.
Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Air signs are mental, cerebral, and communicative, a different manifestation of the yang energy. These signs may come off as “airheads” because they’re a bit “out there,” but they always keep things interesting. Because these signs are so communicative, they need stimulating conversation, to feel a mental connection or shared sense of humor.
Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Intuitive, emotional and ultra-sensitive, water signs can be as mysterious as the ocean itself. Like water, they can be refreshing, or they can drown you in their depths. These signs often have intense dreams and borderline-psychic intuition. Security is important to them—after all, water needs a container, or it dries up and disappears.

How do Air element signs get along with the other zodiac elements?
See below for element combinations. Read more about Air Signs in Love here.
Air + Fire
The Good: The energy is lively and engaging in a Fire-Air relationship. Chill the wine and prep the snacks because these social butterflies love hosting visitors for impromptu hangouts. There’s plenty of laughter here as witty Air signs fan the flames of fire sign’s humor and passion. Since they’re both independent, they’ll naturally give each other space and be curious about one another’s autonomous interests. They have lots in common, too, and make great playmates and project partners.
The Bad: Fire signs can be warm, with BIG feeling energy that rushes out in nonstop chatter. Air signs are cool and logical, preferring to think before they blurt. As Fire spreads out, systematic Air signs may feel pushed into a corner or frustrated by the sprawl. Meanwhile, Fire may feel their passion is being snuffed out by Air signs’ detached cool.
Air + Earth
The Good: This mysterious mashup is not quite an attraction of opposites, but more a combination of people who are so fundamentally different that they find each other fascinating. Measured, disciplined Earth signs need their routines and get thrown off by too much change. Air signs are constantly updating and upgrading, from the people they call BFFs to their technology. But their influence on each other can be positive. Witty Air signs snap Earth out of their “stick in the mud” ruts while Earth can get Air to stop and smell the roses—and maybe plant a garden of them in the yard.
The Bad: Stubborn Earth signs won’t back down from an argument, which creates endless drama when Air signs decide to play devil’s advocate. What starts as a philosophical debate over dessert can devolve into an ideological battle that wage on for years. Earth signs are traditional and like to keep certain things pure (AKA the way they’ve always been). Air signs are modernizers, bucking against anything old fashioned, including disrupting family customs in ways Earth may find disrespectful.
Air + Air
The Good: Life together is easy and breezy for two Air signs, who are natural communicators when it comes to negotiating both their individual needs and their shared space. Both are highly social and their friend groups merge easily. They may have similar attitudes about guests dropping by (yes please!) along with looser parameters around scheduling (bedtime…what’s that?). Conversation is always lively, whether it’s playful banter or ideation around how to set up the space.
The Bad: Air signs can bring out the fun and childlike nature in each other, but who’s going to be the adult in the room? When it’s time to deal with mundane responsibilities like washing the dishes and paying the bills, neither may be grounded enough to get the job done in a timely fashion. This can devolve into arguing until they create a “relationship management system” or outsource a few of those joy-killing tasks.
Air + Water
The Good: With their opposite temperaments, Air and Water signs generally gravitate to different corners, overlapping when it comes to sharing ideas and humor. Lighthearted air signs are refreshing for deep-feeling water signs, pulling them out of their moods and getting them to focus on uplifting activities. Simultaneously, soulful Water signs, bring air down from the clouds, expanding their empathy and deepening their connection to their family and roots.
The Bad: Sensitive Water signs need quality time and when they feel ignored by their on-the-go Air signs, they may brood and stoop to passive-aggressive maneuvering to signal that they’re hurt. Unfortunately, mental Air signs are not great at picking up hints and may assume that everything’s “great!” until the Water sign musters the courage to confront the issue directly. At that point, however, tempers may be flaring, making it hard for them to quickly come to consensus.
