My take on it is this... cell talk to each other... I'm not sure if they always talk electrically or if they talk via chemicals...For example when a virus attaches itself to membrane... I'm not sure if it sends chemical into the cell to the cell to let it in or of it sends a electric signal ...Whatever the actual mechanism is I believe that it is this mechanism that caused the creation of multicellular organism in the first place... where groups of cells amongst each other decide or devise specialization... such that specific groups would be in charge of movement, these would be in charge of light detection and these for breathing, etc. Where cells amongst each other decide to permanently turn off or activate certain proteins, enzymes or functionalities, which then give that cell specific ...
